Ok my son will be 5 months this friday, and recently he has been eating a whole jar of sweet potatoes is it normal for him to eat this much? because he wanted to nurse a little bit after words is he getting to much? or is this the way it is? my son is exclusively breastfed he gets one jar a day for lunch then he sometimes gets cereal before bed but other then that he eats breast milk and hs doctor told me I could start him on solids!

A whole jar of stage 1 food? That's a pretty small jar... my son started on stage 2 foods just b/ c they come in a bigger jar but they're the same thing as stage 1's and he would eat a half a jar at a time which is about the same thing as one jar of stage 1 food so I'd say that's normal.

I say its a lot... Especially because he's not even 5 months yet... Formula/ breatmilk should come first then food. My sons 5 1/ 2 months old and I just started adding a tiny bit of veggies to his rice cereal.

Are we talking about stage 1 or 2? If it is stage 1 then it actually isn't enough. If it is stage 2 then he actually is eating the right amount. At 5 months, he should be eating cereal and breast milk for breakfast and 1 jar of food and nurse again for lunch. Also, they usually eat another jar or more cereal (i preferred another jar) and nurse again for dinner. Then of course one last nursing session at bedtime or close to it.

That seems like a bit much. But every baby is different and grows at different rates. My son just turned 5 months and he eats about a half a jar of stage 1 sweet potatoes, but he will also drink about 3 oz of formula after that too. I also just started him on solids so it's probably more like practice for now. I wouldn't worry about it too much, babies won't stave themselves and they won't over eat. They know when they're full. Best of luck
