This might sound weird..First time mom i just started offering the meats to my eight month old but i have only giving the mixed ones like ham and apples ect. yesterday i bought some plain ones like chicken why are they in such smaller jars then the others? I didn't know they needed to be mixed? I am feeding him a jar right now but he is also having bananas with it but not mixed together! Is that okay or are you suppose to mix them together? Im confused lol Haha it smells nasty im not eating it lol he likes it plain!

They are in smaller jars so your baby can eat them in one serving. Usually babies get smaller servings of protein along with other foods, just like an adult would, especially since a baby still gets a lot of protien through formula or breast milk. Protien is hard to digest, which is another reason not to give too much at once. YOu don't have to mix meat with other foods, just many babies prefer the taste that way. Meats have a strong taste that is different to what most babies are used to. But if your son likes it and will eat it plain, that is totally fine.

They're concentrated so they're not really to be fed just like that, but you mix them with peas or some other food. The jar can last you 2-3 meals. Good luck!

You can supplement them with a fruit or veggie that your little one already likes. Best wishes!

Because they don't need so much meat alone, they need to have a mix of veggies/ meat or fruit. My son would not touch the separate meats. We always gave him mixtures with veggies/ fruits. I think as long as they are getting meat in their diet at that age, it is fine. Plus the single meats are disgusting...have you tried one? lol yuck

That stuff is gross! I personally would not want to eat meat out of a jar even worse if it smelled disgusting, so I don't give it to my baby either. Just feed your baby whatever meat you're having with dinner/ lunch that day. At 8 months, they might be able to pick up small pieces of meat and eat it like that. If not, buy a baby food mill, and puree real meat that you have cooked... tastes much better! EDIT: Hey look, we have the same name! I didn't even notice at first :)

I personally wouldn't feed my child that nasty stuff! They don't really need it. You can feed him small bites of anything you eat at this age. He will get better nutrition and you will have a better idea of how much he is actually eating. en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/ Baby-led_weaning
