How long does frozen baby food last?

Question: How long does frozen baby food last?

(Posted by: Hailey's Mama on 2008-01-09 18:08:44)

I'm going to start making homemade baby food here soon, and I was wondering how long it lasts in the freezer? I've done tons of research online about it, and I get so many different answers! I've seen anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months. So what I really want to know is what is your experience with how long baby food keeps in the freezer?

Baby food will save easily in the freezer for 3 months. Some sources say for 6 months, but to make sure you save as many nutrients as possible, I would go with 3.

I used to make my own baby food as well. It depends on how you store it as too how long it lasts. I used to make mine in batches and freeze it in ice cube trays. They were the perfect size for 1 portion of baby food, and as my boys got older and ate more then they would have 2 or 3 cubes. I used to cover my food completely in glad wrap to stop frost bite and store like that for no more then a couple of days. However to make it last longer once frozen you can pop the food blocks out and store them in freezer bags or a sealed container for a couple of months. If it is sealed and air tight there is no reason it wont keep like other frozen food in the freezer. But to make enough to last months you would be doing a lot of cooking in one day.

I work as an infant teacher at a preschool. The longest we keep food of that type in the freezer is two weeks.so its really a matter of what you feel is long enough, just make sure it is not too long.

I've heard in a regular freezer 2-3 months, but in a deep freeze about 6 months.

My dear I don't understand why you would go through all that time and trouble. I am the mother of four beautiful healthy girls. A19yr old, 13 yr old and twins that are six. If you cook breakfast. Smash up food till it can be swallowed by baby. Lunch and dinner should be done the same. If baby drinks from a cup give milk juice or water with food. There is no need for hassle in your life. Spend more time with your child instead of warring about food for her. Feed her what you eat just mashed up. I would not leave her food in the freezer no longer than I would my own.
