Feeding baby food why does my baby cry?

Question: Feeding baby food why does my baby cry?

(Posted by: jenns2185 on 2009-02-07 14:21:43)

I started my 4 month old on baby food. she like almost every kind. she crys when i feed it to her. she likes it because she opens her mouth for it. its not really crying its more like whinning and screaming as shes opening her mouth. and its really stressfull. has anyon elses child done this, and what could be the reason why she does this?

Is it too hot/ cold for her? Perhaps try feeding her bottle first - less then usual and start by feeding a little food at the end of the bottle, so baby isn't starving before trying something new good luck x

It's just new to her and she's busy trying to decide if she likes it or not. It can also be that she's hungry, so she opens her mouth for it, but she might be teething a little already so it feels weird to her or it might even sting a bit.

This is common. Because you are just starting, and at that age, they want to be fed and fed quickly. Of course she likes the tastes but she's not filling up fast enough. What I began doing was feeding about half the bottle of formula, then stopping and begin feeding the jar food. It's a little edgy at first, but a routine does begin. I also found that attempting to give the jar food during feedings that are far spread apart in time length than other feedings, it was also difficult and I got the whining. Sometimes I even would try to give the jar in between meals. Just to build a routine.

It honestly sounds to me like she's excited about the food, and that's her way of expressing it since she can't say words yet. If she's opening her mouth and eating it, then I'm sure she likes it. My nephew does the same thing - he waves his hands around and makes excited grunts and little screeches because he really likes his rice cereal! I don't think you need to worry about it.

We began my son at that age as well, and he would do that. He loved all the different kinds of baby foods, and once he got one taste, he couldn't get it fast enough! He would whine and whimper because he just wanted it faster than he could swallow. He still scares me at almost 3 years old because he still eats so fast! He will put 5 bites of food in his mouth at once if we let him! Some days it is so bad that we can't give him his food, and have to hold it off to the side and give him one bite a time until he swallows. He loves string cheese, but he will put the entire thing without it being cut or peeled or anything, just straight out of the package, whole thing in his mouth at once! And he will chew and swallow it within 90 seconds! He isn't big at all, he is super active. He is 33 months old, 39 inches and 33 lbs. But he eats like crazy and hoards his food. Sounds like your daughter may be headed in the same direction of loving the food and wanting it faster than you can feed it.

She may be hungry or doesnt know how to react to the concept of food yet. If it looks like she is upset over swallowing it, etc. lay off the food and stick to some cereal mixed with formula to make it more runny.
