What order do you feed baby food?

Question: What order do you feed baby food?

(Posted by: Nay Nay on 2009-02-05 10:58:42)

My nearly 5 month old has started to eat a little bit of baby food. ( The doctor recommended it) Umm... so we started with fruit. Now I think he is ready for something different. So can anyone give me the best advice. Thanks in advance. Which veggie do you itroduce first?

The general rule of thumb is that you stick to the same fruit for three days. That way you'll be able to find out if the baby had an allergic reaction to it. After three days, you can move on to another fruit or eventually veggies.

Chloe's mom is right. ( I have a Chloe too!) I started with rice cereal though and introduced a new fruit every other day. He's on to veggies and Cherrios now. Good Luck!

Go to the store and pick up a few veggies-squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, green beans and peas. And let him taste them. Best advice I can give is to let him try stuff that maybe you yourself don't like. I would never eat squash but my daughter LOVED it. She is not a picky eater and I credit that to me letting her try a little bit of everything. And making up her own mind.

It totally doesn't matter. Every doctor, and every babycare book and website will tell you the 'right' order for introducing solids. But every list is different ... which tells me that it really doesn't matter. So, offer whatever you enjoy feeding and HE enjoys eating. I'd probably hold off on meat a bit longer, but fruits, veggies, grains ... whatever you wish. Go alphabetically, or by color, or put a jar of each food in a bag and pull one out at random every few days. (He's still young enough to be at high risk for allergy, so do go slowly with new foods, and keep the total number of allergins he's exposed to to a minimum.)
