Just keep offering. My middle child ate very little solids until she was right around a year old, and she gradually increased her intake after that. She's now 5 years old and is a great eater. Like someone else said, try canned fruit (in juice, not syrup) and canned veggies (no salt added) because those are soft and easy to eat. Bananas, melon, and berries are also great (and tasty!) for young ones. (I know the recommendation is no strawberries until a year, but if you have no family history of allergies, it's probably not a big deal at this point.) Fresh pears are also very good, and if cut into thin slices, they can be held and bitten quite easily. As for veggies, my kids particularly liked sweet potatoes, canned green beans, and peas. Also continue to offer small pieces of meat, maybe with a sauce for dipping -- ketchup, applesauce, yogurt, or salad dressing. I've always been told that it's our job, as parents, to offer a variety of healthy foods, and it's the child's job to decide what, when, and how much to eat. Barring any extenuating circumstances, children will not starve themselves, and they'll typically take in all they need. Look at his diet over the course of several days or a whole week, not a single day, and it will start to balance out a bit more. |
