Question: How old was your colicky baby before you fed him solids like rice cereal and gerbers first baby foods?

My son is now 4 1/ 2 months old. From week 2 until week 13 he was a very fussy / gassy / colicky baby. Things have gotten a lot better since then! Thank God! Anyway if you have had a baby with a finicky digestive system too when did you decide to start solid foods? Ive already given him Rice cereal without much trouble...maybe a tad extra gas from what I can tell but doesnt cause as much trouble as it used to now that he is older that is. So what are some suggestions you've obtained from either your doctor or your own tried and true experiences? Remember I'm talking about a colic baby here altho he has gotten lots better i dont want to push things. Thanks!

My son was gassy/ colicky..we started him on rice cereal at 4 months and didn't notice a change for the worse so we continued from there..His colic seemed to go away the older he got, regardless of food. When he was 5 months, I think we did his first veggie and then (banana!) and a bit of oatmeal (I think the oatmeal was less harsh on his tummy, and also less binding)

Current recommendations are to wait until 6 months to begin for solids for ANY baby, colicky or not. Why give solids early and even risk messing up his digestion again? (I started solids at 5 1/ 2 months -- recommendations were a bit different 18 years ago.)

I started rice cereal at 4.5 months. However, it was under the misguided notion that it would make daughter sleep longer. It didn't. So I quit and restarted at 6 months. My daughter was colicky for the first 3 months.

What we deemed as colic in our baby was actually later diagnosed as acid reflux. Our doctor advised us to give her rice cereal very early on because she spit up so frequently and he was concerned about her ability to keep her food down. She started on rice cereal at eight weeks and we also switched her to a Enfamil's Gentle Ease formula. It worked miracles in terms of her gassiness and help some with the spitting up and her general discomfort. She's a little over six months now and has started eating jars of baby food. She rarely spits up now and doesn't seem as gassy.
