Of course when I first became a mother I had the dreams of making all my own baby food, well when it came down to it I just didn't have the time so I gave in and bought jarred. Of course I have given the occasional mushed banana but atleast up until now its all been factory made jarred food. My question is for the people who did or maybe even didnt use jarred food once your baby made it to the stage 2 and you introduced meats and started finger foods did you move on to stage 3 foods or did you start throwing your regular meals in a blender or making special stuff for baby?? What is considered safe and okay to introduce at this point?? If I want to spend time on the weekends making on freezing baby food where do I start?? Suggestions would be great help! Thank you so much!!

I never gave baby food at all. I simply waited until my daughter began picking up food, bringing it to her mouth and chewing it. No need to shovel purees at your baby. Why not just give easily manipulated pieces of food? Steamed brocoli or asparagus, wedges of cheese, a piece of toast, slices of cucumber and apple, a chicken drumstick to gnaw on. If your baby can pick up food and gnaw on it, he doesn't need you to spoonfeed him. If he can't pick up food, and doesn't have his pincer grasp, he doesn't need solids at all.

Don't waste your money on anymore jarred food. Give your baby what you're eating. Depending on her age, cut out the highly allergic ones, and salt. Other than that, she can eat most of the stuff you eat. Cut it up, or give her a big piece to hold (like broccoli tree, waffle, toast) and let her feed herself.

I used a FEW stage three jars, but when baby was old enough to be eating that much, she was 90% on finger foods. She can eat anything she can gum up (even if she has teeth she will chew with her gums) except honey. Go easy on salt/ sugar, but spices and seasonings are fine.

I did the same as you, had the best of intentions but never had the time when it came around to it and did jars for a few months! now i just take out a portion of whatever im having and mash it up with a fork she has alsorts of veggies, mash potatoes and fruit, i give her slices of lean corned beef to eat just sat in her high chair she mushes most of it into the tray but its easy to eat for her carrot battons are good boil them up and give baby a few to hold themselves, just experiment you don't have to bother with the blender they need get to practicing chewing, i have also been told pureeing food for a baby for too long can result in fussyness in eating later on i don't know how true that is but im not taking chances, so i just put some goodies on her tray and let her explore her food. .... they say to avoid eggs, honey and nuts for the first year.and definately no added salt..but really whatever you see in a meal in a jar at the supermarket you can introduce at home! I don't buy baby jars now, but my daughter likes the heinz macaroni cheese from a tin so thats what she has if im on something spicy or not suitable for her... i still have to mash it slightly tho.
