10 month old refusing to eat baby food & solids..advice?

Question: 10 month old refusing to eat baby food & solids..advice?

(Posted by: Trapped on 2010-08-12 21:50:14)

My daughter is almost 10 months old. My doctor told me to try her with solids at 8 months, I did but she didn't take them. I wasn't worried about it then because even the doctor said it might take it a few weeks for her to get used to them. I kept trying to give her solids, different things at different times, and trying to encourage her to try it. She started to eat the baby food(like in the jar) at 9 months but refused to eat anything else. She's a few days from being 10 months old now and she refuses all of it now, even applesauce which was like her favorite one to have. She'd eat that if she wouldn't eat any of the other ones. I'm kind of confused as to why she'd start eating it but then all of a sudden refuse it all. I'm also worried that she's not getting enough to eat. Has anybody else had this issue with their child/ children? What did you do? How did you make sure your baby got enough to eat throughout the day? She was formula fed. I should say she IS formula fed. I haven't changed the formula and she still gets her bottle. She has a few teeth already. I hadn't noticed anymore coming in just yet.

Did you breast feed or formula feed? If you breast fed then her stomach might be upset from the lack of breast milk. If you have any of that left offer it to her. If you do that already then she's probably just being stubborn in which case decrease her milk intake and just put her in her high seat and put an assortment of solid foods in front of her until she eats some. She will eat if she is hungry enough.

It could be teething. She is getting plenty to eat as long as you are still giving her formula and/ or breastmilk. My baby didn't take to solids until after her first birthday. She's 15 months now and will eat anything I offer. She prefers to self-feed and used to clamp her mouth shut if I tried to spoon-feed her. I know it's frustrating, but it's not abnormal and not unhealthy as long as she is still taking in formula or breastmilk.

My daughter is 9 months and I was told my my pediatrician to start her on finger foods now. Have you tried that? She may be ready for the next stage which is why she might be refusing the baby food.

Are you giving her finger foods or just "baby food " from a spoon? She probably is getting independent and wants to self feed. Offer her small pieces of cut up veggies, fruit, cheese, toast, etc and see how she gets on. It may take a while but once she is drinking plenty of formula she will be fine.
