My one year old is on strike! no baby food. formula only. what to do!?

Question: My one year old is on strike! no baby food. formula only. what to do!?

(Posted by: Beachy Keen 2 on 2010-11-22 13:24:02)

OK, so my youngest son just turned 1 year old last Wednesday. For the past week or so he has been not eating hardly any baby food. He's just refusing keeping his little lips closed as tight as he can. lol I have been trying for a while to introduce him to some table foods. He's a preemie (6 weeks early) and is a little behind developmentally so I'm not trying to rush the table foods. The only thing he seems to want to eat is that Gerber baby yogurt and this stew stuff we make sometimes. lol Bu he can't live on those 2 things forever! Any suggestions on what I can do? Anyone going through something similar? It's been going on for a while now so I'm stuck on how to get him to eat. He's not feeding himself finger foods yet either so trying that is out for now.

OMG, my daughter did the same thing. I kinda had to trick her into eating it. I made her formula as I usually do, except I put less formula than usual with about 3 or 4 oz less water and put the baby food IN the formula. Whether it was peas, carrots, etc. It got her to have something other than formula = )

This can be a tricky one!! everyone has lots of different opinions on when to move onto solids, but remember every child is different, and being a preemie he might just take things a bit slower. in my personal opinon, when children are hungry, they'll eat. try putting the food in front of them and allowing and allow them to do it themselves. no spoon, just their hands. at the same time. you sit with them, and eat your meal. this helps because they'll see you do it and know that when we sit down for food, we put it in their mouth. now the next bit is tough. if the don't eat their meal after 30 mins take it away. do this for every meal time. they'll learn that when food is given to them, thats their meal, and then you can get onto spoons. remember, its natural to want to eat food, but i'm sure to a 1 year old drinking formula is way easier and tastier than getting used to akward feeling and tasting food. just my personal opinion, but i hope this helps!! good luck!!

Increase wages and improve working conditions. "what do we want? Candy! and when do we want it? NOW! " haha, i can joke sometimes...
