Babies first food question?

Question: Babies first food question?

(Posted by: Katie on 2011-12-17 01:19:29)

My son is 5.5 months old and has just started eating fruit and veg. He started on rice cereal at 4 months on his pediatricians advise and at 5 months, started on purees. Problem is, the only thing he seems to like is sweet potato. I have tried carrot, pumpkin and mangos and he doesn't seem to like the taste of them. So, i mix them in with some cereal, about 1/ 2 and 1/ 2, and he will eat it. It must weaken the taste so its not so full on. So, is it ok to be mixing his fruit and veg with cereal? Or should I try to get him to eat them straight?

It's fine to be mixing them when they are little some of the flavors are too strong for them still. carrots are a strong flavor. i started my son on very bland stuff like potatoes and turnips then moved on to squash and then carrots i didn't introduce fruits till he had gone a week on every veggie i could think of because there is higher acidity in fruits and it tends to make diaper rash worse.

Its ok for now. I would lessen the amount mixed in as time goes by until you dont mix any in at all. Its just a taste shock for him maybe...

The "cereal " is just highly refined starch -- junk food -- not a good thing for your baby.
