Er, no. There's no need to give her baby cereal ever. I mean it's pretty bland and tasteless anyway... Please note that doctors are not nutritionists...

Have you tried mixing a little cereal in with the baby food she likes, that always worked for me with my kids.

Until one food is for fun, not really to meet her nutritional requirements. Cereal is recommended because back in the day formula was home made and didn't have a lot of iron and breastmilk was thought not to contain iron (it does in very low, highly absorbed quantities). ONly about 30% of iron is absorped through the cereal

Will it affect her? Sure, she'll be healthier not eating that junk. She really does not need or benefit from highly refined starch like that. Good links on cereal: answers.yahoo.com/ question/ index?qid= 20080321134522AAJdBps usatoday.com/ yourlife/ parenting-family/ babies/ 2010-12-01-babyfood01_st_N.htm Try to keep in mind that when your doctor throws out that sort of suggestion -- it is not medical advice. Hopefully "on stage 1 foods " does not mean the kid is _entirely_ fed the jarred stuff? A diet of nothing but processed foods is not good for anybody. She can have the same fresh foods the rest of the family is eating. Also of interest: msnbc.msn.com/ id/ 9646449/ ns/ health-kids_and_parenting/ t/ experts-seek-debunk-baby-food-myths/ cspinet.org/ reports/ cheat1.html There is no need to go in "stages " -- that is a myth used to hawk baby food and nothing else.

My son wouldn't eat rice cereal at all. After trying different things we found he would eat the gerber oatmeal cereal but only if I mix some fruit into it. I just eye ball the cereal and when I first started out I would add 1/ 4 a jar of fruit to the cereal now he eats much more so I add a jar to quite a bit of cereal. You could try that :)
